Remember when emailing first started becoming the way to communicate? We found out which of our friends were spell check nazis. Which of our friends had more fun typing smiley faces then actual content? Which of our friends freaked out if we didn't respond to their email within five minutes?
I never imagined that when you send someone a news story, or if I do an off the cuff blog on it, these same types would want to know every tiny detail about the case. Or they wouldn't believe the story unless you included the link.
So I'm saying right off the bat, you can Google for details if you want them. Here's the deal on this case.
A man in Tennesse was awarded custody of his kids. And you have to think when that happens, the woman had some problems. Usually they're going to win that battle.
He feared the woman would take the kids, and he tried to set things in place so this wouldn't happen. But it did happen.
She went back to her country -- Japan.
I immediately leaned over to my girlfriend and said, "If I find out she was one of those mail order brides, I'm going to have no sympathy for this guy."
She said that shouldn't matter.
But, here is where I lost a bit of sympathy for this poor sap. He went to Japan, and as his kids were walking somewhere, he abducted them (for lack of a better word).
The Japanese police arrested him, and now he's in jail there.
And the story is all over the news.
I'd love to tell him that I'm on his side, but it seems crazy that he'd think kidnapping his kids was the way to go about it. Even if Japan doesn't send her or the kids back over here, you have to go through the legal channels. You just can't take the law into your own hands.
And how does he think this is all going to affect the kids? My guess is...he didn't think about that. He just acted on emotion. Never a good thing when children are involved.
I also want to know if Bill Clinton will be quick to fly out there and take care of the situation. Or will it not be as important, since it's not two cute, female Asian journalists that were working for Al Gore's company.
I wonder if President Obama will jump in and take care of the situation. Oh wait...he's busy trying to get the Olympics here in the states.
Priorities.
