Pull Gun on Cop -- Collect $325,000!

I often complain about the jury system. And people try to tell me it's the best system in the world, and not much could make it better.

When I mention the many killers that have gotten off, because the jury is filled with idiots that don't know how to look at evidence, and aren't sure what it means to have "reasonable doubt"....my friends claim "That's not the norm."

Well, here's yet another reason for me to hate jurors. Not only do they let killers walk the street, but because of their idiotic decision making, it often makes the police and city come up with idiotic decisions.

The most reason one is this: The police shot a 25-year-old. They had pulled him over for an illegal turn, and he scuffled with officers. At one point, he reached behind his van's front passenger seat and pulled out a gun. Officers fired, killing him.

The gun he was going for was a prop that he used in puppet shows (it would've been so much better had he pulled out a puppet, slipped it on his hand, and in a different voice used that to talk to the cop while being ticketed).

I'm glad this scum is dead. Anyone fighting with officers, and then making a movie towards ANYTHING that looks like a gun. Or, anything in general, is someone that is a threat to society.

Well, the family filed a wrongful-death lawsuit, and what does the city of San Diego do? They decide to settle, and pay the family $325,000!!!!!

So, in this economy...when the post office is laying people off, the DMV is cutting employee hours, and teachers are being let go, we have to watch as a criminals family receives a nice chunk of change.

I understand the premise the city uses...that to fight it costs money. And if the jury makes some wacky decision, because they show film of him doing puppet shows for disabled children, and they can conceive how this guy fought with cops. And maybe one or two of them start thinking the police lie, and one thing leads to another -- a jury awards millions to this family. It wasn't worth the risk.

But I say...if you're using tax payer money, and you know you're right, fight it. Counter sue, and they'll have to pay the court costs when you win.

After all, the shooting was deemed to be justified. So let a jury decide if a wrongful death was warranted. And if the juries are so idiotic you can't trust them, well....it's time we came up with a different system.
