I always think lists are fun to debate and play with. Although, when I did the list of best drum songs, that fell flat. I think only a few people responded.
When I turned on my computer this morning, one of the things that popped up was a list. And I thought it would be fun to discuss the choices on it.
A British TV show called "Primeval," surveyed 3,000 people asking them which dead person they would most like to meet.
The #1 pick got 33% of the vote. Any guesses before you scroll down?
Top 10 dead celebrities these people most want to meet:
Jesus Christ. Now, who can argue with this pick, no matter what your religion. I wonder what questions would be best to ask him. I might steal a line from comedic genius Bill Hicks, and ask what he thinks of everyone wearing crosses.
Princess Diana. Okay, I understand this list was compiled by asking English folks. But really? This woman was so adorable, but I doubt she'd have anything of interest to say. She didn't seem very bright.
William Shakespeare. Who can argue this? I would ask about whether he wrote everything himself and how he came up with his ideas.
Albert Einstein. Another great choice.
Marilyn Monroe. Now this choice is understandable, yet I have problems with it. Monroe wasn't all that smart. I doubt she'd be interesting. And if you were going to pick a beautiful actress...why not go Natalie Wood (I'd ask her if Richard Wagner did kill her, as I suspect), Greta Garbo, Rita Hayworth (I'd ask her what she thought about Shawshank Redemption), Josephine Baker (can't tell you what I'd ask her), Norma Shearer, Sharon Tate, Audrey Hepburn, Carol Lombard, Hedy Lamarr (and I'd keep calling her "Hedley"), Jean Harlow, Ingrid Bergman, and Joan Crawford (I'd ask her if they have wire hangers in heaven).
Leonardo da Vinci. This is a pick that could be #1. I'm guessing that if a few younger people were asked in the survey, they would've gone with Leonardo da Caprio over da Vinci.
Elvis Presley. Even though Presley was basically a dumb hick, come on. He's the king of rock n roll. I have no problem with him being on this list.
Roald Dahl. What the heck! Who is this guy? I think he wrote a movie I liked, but I can't remember which one. Not sure why he'd be picked over some other film writing legends like Orson Welles or Alfred Hitchcock.
Freddie Mercury. This has got to be a goofier pick than Freddie's goofy mustache and buck teeth. Now, Queen is one of my Top 5 bands of all-time. But why in the world would I pick Freddie over, say...George Harrison and John Lennon, Jim Morrison, Hendrix, Kurt Cobain, etc.
Martin Luther King. I can see this pick. I would be curious to ask him what he thinks of how far the country has come. That could be regarding a black President, or a number of other things. I think meeting people like him, Benjamin Franklin, Tesla, Wright Brothers, would be fun just to talk to them about all the advances in the world.
I would also think at least one comedian could make the list. It would be fun to ask Lenny Bruce what he thinks about all the cursing they do on cable TV, or Lucille Ball, Sam Kinison...but, I can't see who on the list above I'd knock for a comedian.
