Is there any doubt that Super Bowl 43 is going to be a lot better than President 43?
Some years the Super Bowls don't get anyone excited. The last few years we've been lucky.
And it's great to hear all this talk about the Arizona Cardinals, a team that they say hasn't been this far in over 40 years.
I loved what President Obama said when asked to pick the team he wanted to win. He went on about being a Bears fan, but said his second favorite team was always the Steelers. He said he likes the fact that the Cardinals are this great cinderella team, and that Kurt Warner is probably the player closest to his age, but that he's still rooting for the Steelers.
How refreshing is that? Most times politicians are so worried about saying something that doesn't offend anyone. Remember Hillary Clinton running in New York and wearing a Yankees cap? Someone pointed out to her that she had previously said the Cubs were her favorite team. She thought the best statement there would be "Well, they're both my favorites. The Cubs and Yankees are my two favorite teams."
Lame. And besides, nobody bought it.
But President O comes right out and says he's a Steelers fan, since the Bears aren't in the big dance.
On a side note, Oprah always puts herself on the cover of "O" magazine. With Obama having the same first letter, and her being so involved in his campaign, you think maybe she could put him on the cover? Would her ego let her do that, just this once?
Anyway, on to Kurt Warner and the Cardinals.
I received an email from some company selling sports memorabilia. They're going to have a private signing with Warner, and they are charging outrageous prices for signed things.
And last night when I got home and went thru the channels, I saw QVC had autographed footballs they were selling for $500. That would be a good deal if it was signed by the entire team (where you get a few Hall of Fame players, like Larry Fitzgerald).
And speaking of the Hall...those sports shows and writers (including San Diego's Nick Canepa), really need to get a clue. There's no way Warner makes the Hall of Fame. Even if he wins the Super Bowl. The guy has way too many years just sitting on the bench and not even being a starter.
Sure, he's had a few good years where his teams have went to the Super Bowl. But, when people are talking about Chris Carter, the best receiver I've ever seen play the game, not making it this year...well, I don't want to even hear Warners name mentioned in relation to the Hall.
