I thought I could do a blog about Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner doing what celebrity couples do best. No, not getting divorced. But giving their child a crappy name. They went with Seraphina Rose Elizabeth. Their first daughter Violet got off easy!

Then that huge airplane landed in the Hudson. I know, I just did a plane story in yesterdays blog. But watching the news footage right now, and seeing that huge thing floating, is just amazing. So...the plane story wins.
It was baffling that nobody died. And great to see the boats get out there so quickly to rescue everyone.
When I was driving to the movies tonight, I heard on one of the AM news stations, a survivor say "I forgot to use my seat cushion as a floatation device. I just tried getting out of there as quickly as possible."
I couldn't believe that. How often have comedians over the years, joked about the amount of times it's drilled into our heads that the seat cushions can be used for this? Because, when a plane goes down from a mile up, you probably won't need a floatation device, but something that can fix 200 broken bones and a crushed skull.
And, this whole disaster happened because of a flock of geese (there's gotta be a Flock of Seagulls joke in there somewhere, but it's too late to give it much thought).
As a kid growing up near Miramar, I remember hearing a story about a balloon at a birthday party flying up and getting sucked in a jet engine and causing a crash. And the story of birds in engines came out once in a while. But I thought we fixed this problem.
I just saw some cat on Jimmy Kimmel Live that had a power pack on his back, and he was flying around like something from a James Bond movie. Yet, we still can't build jet engines that won't bite the dust if birds get sucked into them. We can land a guy on the moon....but, that's if the space shuttle doesn't come across any space birds along the way!
I had talked to artist Peter Max the other day (he's going to be in town at the end of the month). And he told me his 30,000 square foot studio overlooks the Hudson. I'm dying to know if he saw this plane make its landing.
And if he did, was he inspired to paint what he saw?
