Michael Phelps was all over the news. There were photos with his face buried in a bong. It was a good look for him. He's kinda goofy looking in other pictures I've seen.
It's really strange that these celebrities don't realize that EVERYONE now has a camera on them. It makes the average joe a paparazzi if the situation presents itself (I recently talked to the Doors guitarist about this; look for it in the next Crasher)
There were videos of Amy Winehouse smoking crack. That was huge, and everyone already knew she did that stuff.
What made the Phelps thing so interesting is that he previously had a DUI. And with celebrities, I always say two strikes and you're out. One mistake (especially for a kid his age) is understandable. But there shouldn't be a second one. They're role models for kids. They have endorsement deals...of which, I heard someone speculated that the $100 million dollar deals he had lined up might go away.
Although, I can see him now doing a McDonald's or 7-11 spot, talking about how when he gets the munchies, there's only one place to go.
Maybe a show like SNL can do a fake commercial, with him on a Wheaties box. They can spell it to say "Weed" instead.
If odds makers were taking money on which of the athletes in the Olympics would've been caught with pot, I'm guessing the safe bet would've been on the basketball team. But a swimmer?
I wonder if Mark Spitz was happy with the news. You always wonder how the people that held the records that were broken, take the bad news of the current record holder.
I also wonder about the other people at the party. I mean, Phelps probably bogarts the bong like nobodies business. Think about it. With the lungs that dude has, he can take one hit and there wouldn't be anything left for anyone else.
