I almost missed my morning racquetball games, because the power went out. I'd wake up, glance at the digital clock, and see nothing.
I ended up sleeping until 11, only to find out my guys were meeting at the court in within 45 minutes. Not much time to read the paper or do anything else.
And of course, the dog didn't want to go for a walk.
My girlfriend bought him a raincoat, which he looks adorable wearing. The yellow wrapped around his cute little head. She picked up something called "paw protectors" for his feet. With those on, he doesn't walk. Not even in the house. It's like the mob when they dip your feet in concrete before you go sleepin' with the fishes. Even with a few nudges, he just stands there.
The area around the 805 and Clairemont Mesa, was completely flooded. You'd watch cars drive by, and half of the vehicle would be beneath water, with huge splashes 10 feet high.
The crowd in front of the Starbucks was just standing out front in awe.
When I drove by Laurel downtown, I saw a palm tree had fallen into an SUVs windshield and roof. I had just argued about SUVs with a woman at Starbucks. I told her I didn't care that the SUV drivers are destroying the Ozone Layer. I just want them to learn how to fit the things into parking spaces, or start parking them on the street instead of the lots.
Maybe the palm tree was God getting revenge on the gas guzzler. And hey...I saw an SUV on the news that had hit a guard rail, too.
My buddy went to see a movie at the Town Square Theatre in Clairemont. He told me they were closed, because the power was out.
And I thought about how I tried to go to the Chin's in Clairemont for lunch only hours earlier, to find they were closed. I asked if it was because of a power outage, and the guy just looked at me, with a cigarette dangling from his mouth. I looked around and noticed there were no tables or anything even set up in the building (I guess it's not going to be opened for another few months).
I can't believe the freeway went as smoothly as it did. I was on it multiple times today and...traffic was going around 50 mph, and it flowed well. You'd occasionaly have an idiot cut someone off, but...no accidents that I saw.
My dog was up for walking when I got home at five, and it was probably the only 30 minutes of the day the rain let up. But the wind was strong, and at one point it moved my maltese about 3 feet when he lifted his little leg.
If you're out on the roads this week, slow down and be safe.
