Famous Faces in the News -- Dylan, Pitino, Phelps, George Michael

Jesse Jackson says something stupid about once a week. Well, I'm guessing he says something stupid daily. It's once a week that the rest of us get to hear what it is.

College basketball coach Rick Pitino got into some problems recently. The married father of five had an affair with a crazy woman. They had sex on the table of an Italian restaurant, which makes me first wonder if anyone pulled the line from "When Harry Met Sally" and said "I'll have what she's having!"

I wonder if anyone is ever going to want to eat at that table again.

Pitino later gave the woman $3,000 for an abortion (and you think chivalry is dead in this country). He now claims that was just to help her pay for medical insurance. Somehow, I think Obama should jump in and say "See. This is how bad the health care system is in this country. Women have to have affairs with married men, just to get them to pay for their doctors!"

But it was Jesse Jackson in an interview, asking why Pitino was able to keep his job, and society is still being so tough on Michael Vick. He also compared Vick to Jackie Robinson.

Now, that is so bad on so many levels. And instead of taking apart all the reasons why that's an idiotic statement, I'll talk about the one aspect I almost agree with. And that's the fact that nothing is going to happen to Pitino.

There's something in his contract that says they can terminate it if he does anything negative. And I can understand if Louisville doesn't want to fire him because he's a great coach. And maybe he's great with kids (well, when he's not aborting them). And that's fine. But they should say something like "We can either fire you, and it's doubtful anyone would hire you. Or, we'll cut your $3 million dollar a year salary in half."

Now, I'm not sure that's how much he makes, I'm just guessing. I'm also guessing that he'd be willing to take a pay cut to stay in his position. And it baffles me that the university isn't doing this.

I was also baffled by this Michael Phelps story.

He was involved in a car accident, when a woman ran a red light and smashed into him. His ankle got messed up. And, he admitted to the police that he had "one beer".

Yeah, right. How many times do you think the cops have heard "I only had one drink," or "I just had two beers. And that was hours ago." Yet, the police didn't do any sobriety checks on him and I wonder why. Even if the accident wasn't his fault. If he was impaired by alcohol, maybe he could've avoided the accident. Or, at the very least, if he was driving over the legal limit, he should be cited. Whether he caused the accident or not. Last I heard, Donte Stallworth (the NFL player that killed the guy) hit someone jaywalking. And look what happened to him (I can only guess as to what Jesse Jackson would say about why the two were treated differently).

And what I would tell Jesse Jackson is...it goes both ways.

You see, he's probably still steamed about Harvard racist Gates being arrested by the police for not wanting to show ID and yelling at officers that got a call about a break-in at his house.

I wonder how he would explain the fact that this happened to Bob Dylan.

He had a concert in New Jersey the other day, and was wandering around the neighborhood "looking at houses." The cops got a call about a "suspicious person in the neighborhood". The cops asked what he was doing. He had no ID, and guess what they did? They treated him like a complete unknown (sorry, couldn't resist).

Anyway, they took him in. And you know what? He wasn't even doing what Gates did. He didn't talk about the cops wives or mothers. He didn't yell. He simply didn't have ID.

What surprises me is, I remember a few years back. I think it was in Colorado. Dylan wasn't allowed into the concert venue because he didn't have ID. At his own concert! You'd think after an incident like that, homeboy would start carrying a wallet around.

Well...nowhere near as talented a songwriter as Dylan, but a voice a thousand times better -- George Michael. The guy that gave us Wham. The guy that gave us...fear of public restrooms.

He apparently got into a car accident in which he hit a tractor. He claims that he was "stone cold sober." Although, we can't help but think about the time he was slumped over in a van at a stoplight, completely passed out. Or if it was the tractors fault, for...oh, I dunno. Just sitting there in a field, egging him on.

But hey, he's famous. I'm sure the police didn't give him a sobriety test, either.
