Commercials and Candy Bars

So, I've got CNN on right now. And there's a story about a cop that laughed at a murder victim and even talked about the victims mom. I didn't want to get into another heavy duty blog on good cops/bad cops. But I think it's safe to say, that with all this video floating around now, the bad cops will get filtered out soon enough. And as someone said, they're human. You'll have good and bad in most professions.

I thought instead I'd blog about something light and easy. And a few things come to mind.

First, was the newspaper on my front porch. I notice that yet again, there's a sticker/advertisement on the front of it. And, I don't mind those. I get a bit annoyed by all the inserts in the Sunday paper, but I realize lots of people like those coupons and ads and it pays their bills.

The interesting thing about this sticker in the upper right-hand corner, is that it doesn't cover up anything I want to read. And, for some reason, I always read them. I'm not sure why, but I think it has something to do with the fact that at first I'm not sure what it even is. And as I start reading it, I know it's an ad, but still finish it.

I thought about how I liked the ads in movie theatres at the Landmark. Sometimes they're foreign and fun. The Stella beer ones are interesting, although they used to mix them up. The one with the train ran for over two years! It was nice to see a new one the other day that had people dropping out of the Tour de France just to get a brew.

When I was in a movie theatre watching Adventureland (a cute love story, that reminded me of the old John Hughes films)...they had an ad that tricked you into watching it. They made it look like a movie trailer.

When I was at a friends house after the movie, we were all talking about the film. And we were munching on the big bowl of miniature candy bars in the bowl on the kitchen table.

As I peeled the wrapper on these tiny Snickers, I realized they shrank. It used to be what they called "fun size" which wasn't fun for anyone. They were too tiny to be fun. But these said "bite size." And they were literally, the size of a Scrabble tile (but thankfully, a bit thicker).

I ate about nine. And with wrappers strewn all over the table making me look like a pig...I figured I ate the equivalent of 1/2 of a regular sized Snickers bar.

It reminded me of something that KGBs morning show was talking about a few weeks back. Someone mentioned they liked peeling the wrapper off a Hersheys Kiss. That was always what I hated about those. You try peeling it and part of the wrapper stays on. Or the top part of the chocolate breaks off and falls somewhere.

I understand they look nice and shiny when you put them in a dish on your table, so I give the Kisses a pass.

But these bite size Snickers looked ridiculous in this huge bowl on the kitchen table.

It didn't stop me from eating them, but still.
