I voted for Obama. I can't say I'm happy with all the things he's done while in office. I'm seeing another Jimmy Carter, but without the goofy voice.
I never listen to Rush Limbaugh, and it actually boggles my mind that anyone does. But I happened to be going thru the channels in my car, and I heard him talking about Obamas use of the teleprompter. He had a funny joke where he was going on and on about how important the teleprompter was to America.
This all stems from the fact that Obama has used it often; even when he had to do a 20 second announcement.
I then saw Letterman do a funny bit called "Teleprompter/No Telemprompter". It showed Obama eloquently saying something. It then went to a clip of Bush making one of the many mistakes he's made when trying to get a thought out of his bird brain.
And, as much as the Democrats and comedians gave W. crap about his speaking mishaps (my favorite being: "There's an old saying, fool me once...." if you haven't heard his version of that, you gotta YouTube it), I think it's fair game for Obama to hear about his reliance on the teleprompter.
But, my logic is almost the same as when I hear people say that actors and musicians are selling out, because they made some money doing a commercial. You could argue that the band sold-out when they first signed a record contract with a big label, or many other things. Or, you could just simply say to yourself -- hey, if Bono can make a million bucks doing a Doritos commercial, who cares? He can still want to save babies in Africa, and also eat a tasty snack and make a few bucks in the process.
With teleprompters, if you want to say they shouldn't be used....well, let's talk about speech writers. I remember as a teenager in high school, reading an article about White House speech writers. It blew me away. I thought that was a form of cheating. I mean, I couldn't have some other student write me a speech or book report, could I?
And, it's funny because a President can say something so profound. It moves many in the nation, and nobody says "Yeah, that was a great speech. But someone else wrote it."
Yet, when VP Dan Quayle talked about the TV show Murphy Brown, and mentioned her being responsible for some of the ills in society (I think it was regarding her being a single parent on the show)....well, what did Quayle do?
He blamed that on a speech writer.
