It's weird...a few weeks back I was watching football with friends, and we had all kinds of debates on politics and on the current campaigns.
Last Sunday, watching football with friends, and hanging out with other people, nobody was talking politics. It was strange. The Chargers had the week off, and it was like all my friends took the Sunday off from debating about politics.
I did get in a huge debate about the police, though.
A few weeks ago, there was a story in Anaheim about a cop that shot and killed a man. And, what did this man do? Well, he came outside to see what all the commotion was about.
You see, the cop was chaisng burglar suspects, and this 20-year-old heard the noise around 1:30 a.m. He had a pregnant 19-year-old wife that he married a week previously.
As bad as I feel for this guy, I'm going to feel worse for the police get sued over this.
The man came out of his house with a broomstick, to "defend his wife and in-laws."
Well, this is the same reason I was mad about that idiot in Texas who shot two burglars next door. I was glad those guys died. We don't have to deal with a few losers on the planet. But, going outside, can only complicate matters.
In the argument with my friends, I said "What would've happened if the cops showed up as this guy in Texas is standing there with his gun. Before he can hear what is being said, or yelled at him, the police fire. Then, they shot someone that was 'helping' them, and trying to stop criminals."
I think everyone will agree the police have a tough and dangerous job. So, why do we then jump on them when they shoot an "innocent" bystander? Especially one that comes out of his house with a weapon.
If you hear noise outside of your house, I'm guessing the safest thing to do is stay inside and call 911. Then, if you want to grab a knife, broomstick, or if you're Joe the plumber, a plunger. And, have your family stay safe inside, while you stand INSIDE prepared, just in case someone breaks a window and tries to enter.
If you open the door, you're only inviting the opportunity for those 4 criminals fleeing the police, a chance to bum rush you and possibly kill or hold your family hostage.
It's the same as those folks that have a gun in their house. There's that statistic we see about how often a criminal breaks in and uses that same weapon on the resident.
