Garage Sales (or Sidewalk Sales)

My mom leaves stuff on her sidewalk for people to take.

I saw something on Headline News about people having garage sales. One guy was talking about how much it gets him talking with the neighbors. I just thought...how weird it must be for the neighbors to see all your crap. Why not just give it to charity? Or, is getting 25 cents for a lamp so much better?

My parents never really had garage sales. And I noticed lately, they do something different when they want to get rid of their junk (i.e. "stuff").

They just set it outside on their sidewalk in Vista.

But the problem is they do it all wrong. When I've had apartments at different places, people would sometimes leave dressers and things by the dumpster, with a sign that said "Free" or "take this". Usually they would be missing a handle or something.

The problem with my parents is, they leave no note. I've asked them why. They say, "Well, people always take the stuff, so it must be working."

They left out a computer printer a few months back. And, when I went to have lunch with them today, they had three chairs sitting out there. It looked like they were waiting for a parade to come down the street or were going to watch fireworks.

I told them nobody would take chairs, because neighbors would just assume that you were using them for something and forgot to take them inside.

I ended up staying at their house until 11:00 p.m. And when I walked to my car, I see one of the chairs is gone.

I'm guessing someone thought they were stealing a chair. Maybe by the end of the week, the other two will be "stolen."
