Getting thru the idiots during the course of my day, can get tiresome.
I'm in the gas station, and the guy in front of me is complaining about a bottle of Coke he bought the day before. He was screaming, and didn't even make sense. He finally said, in a fit of rage, that he was going over to the fountain to fill it up with Coke. The young kid working behind the register said, "Whatever. Go for it."
Then, as I'm pulling out and making a U-turn, I can't go, because two cars in front of me, some blonde soccer mom decided to give the homeless guy on the corner some money. She's waving him over. He drops his sign, and jogs to her passenger window. I'm honking my horn, and everyone probably thinks I'm the jerk for doing that.
But...how many stories have they done, telling you NOT to give money to them. Give it to a charity, that knows how to distribute it. Not some person that probably isn't homeless, but pulls in $100 a day standing on the corner. Or someone that really is homeless, but is going to buy booze.
And, certainly don't do it, when you are holding up traffic at a green light. I swear, next time, I'm just going to go -- even if that means I'm pushing their car with my bumper.
Then, I go into Stater Brothers. A little Vietnamese woman in front of me only has three items. Perfect. I'll be in and out of here in no time. Usually I pick the wrong lines in the store.
Then, she starts explaining that she's returning one package of Rice Krispy Treats, for another one. She said that her family didn't like the ones with chocolate on the top. He has to call a manager over, who then brings a form for her to fill out. She looked at me and said, "I so sorry for this." Which, is nice of her. But, I'd rather she had let me go first. Or, that she didn't go into that register, and went to another area of the store, to talk to a manager about this.
I wanted to say, "Couldn't you just find some neighborhood kids you could've given those to?" In fact, I didn't even think you could return stuff to a grocery store just because you didn't like it. I mean, if you bought food that tasted bad, or was damaged, sure. But just deciding you didn't like it?!?!?! And, I guarantee, that store is just going to re-stock those on their shelves. How do they know the boxes weren't tampered with?
I finally get home, and hear someone on the news complaining about Madonna making it into the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame. He used that cliche about "She isn't rock, she's pop." But, these journalists really do a crappy job of research.
This topic is brought up each year. When Miles Davis was inducted, or Grand Master Flash, one of the first rap groups. Now, it's Madonna and Leonard Cohen.
The Hall of Fame has stated, numerous times, that they include other forms of music, but that they kept the name "Rock Hall of Fame."
Now, if this journalist wanted to argue that Madonna lip synches instead of singing in concert, fine. Go there. If you want to argue that as a songwriter, she has no business even being mentioned in the same breath as Cohen, fine. You'd have some points.
I think, though, if you look at the amount of hits she had. And, how she was always up on the current trends in music (her "Vogue" and "Ray of Light", etc)...I think she deserves to be there.
As to why she didn't sing at the ceremony tonight...well, I'd say...see the lip synch comments above.
