I blogged about a high school kid that lied and said some big colleges offered him a scholarship. I said I didn't think it was that big of a deal, and got a few letters and calls, saying that it was. Well, the reason I was so cavalier about all that...was for stories like this.
I saw on CNN a few days ago, a mother telling her son, (who looked to be around 15) to beat up another boy that had made fun of her daughter. Cameras caught the entire fight.
This idiotic parent was only given a $200 fine and a year probation. I think she should've had her kids taken away from her.
Then, there was a 14-year-old that made a fake Web page, claiming to be his principal. It said how he liked to have sex with the young kids at the school, and that his heroes were Hitler, Sadaam, and Michael Jackson. When it was discovered to be this student, and not the principal, the kid was expelled.
Well, you can guess what happened next. The parents sued the school.
It turns out, a bunch of people claim this is "free speech". That's crap. Free speech would be if this kid had his own Web page, and said he hated the principal; not pretending to BE the principal, and then making up things about him.
And what happened? They decided to "settle" with this kids family. And, they let the kid back in school.
I say the principal should sue the school, or the city. Or, take the family to civil court.
And, just the fact that this boys parents were more "angry" with the school, then their own idiotic son, tells you everything you need to know.
So, when I hear of a high school football player, lying a little bit about his sports achievements...that's why I say it's not that big a deal.
