Here's something you might be interested in.
First, there was the story in the news about a maid the robbed this guy. It was hard for me to feel sympathy for the guy. His wife went away on business, and he hired a maid. Oh, not for the reason you're thinking. He didn't just want the place to look spiffy before his wife returned. He hired one of those "nude" maids off of Craigslist. You've never heard of them? I hadn't either. But, I remember a few years back hearing about maids that would clean in lingerie. And, at a party I wrote about once, a woman worked as a bartender and maid, and told me some horror stories about the guys that hire them.
I've stayed at two different hotels in New York. The first one, a big chain...had maids on two different occasions, knock on my door early in the morning (well, early for me....if its before 10 a.m. that's early for me).
What bothers me most of all, is I have that "do not disturb" sign dangling from the door. Isn't that what that sign is for? I mean, it's not for Jehovah Witnesses or salesmen. It's a hotel!!!!! It's only purpose, is for the maids in the morning.
Now, before I get angry letters from maids that work at hotels (because I'm sure so many of them read my columns and blogs), I understand that some people leave them on the door handle, and sometimes you aren't sure. But, reserve those guesses for someone at 4 p.m. that still has the thing on their door handle.
This morning, I got the knock at 7 a.m. Yeah, it woke me up. But, in the maids defense, this new hotel didn't leave me a sign to hang on the door knob.
