Stupid Skydivers

What's the phrase for that? Oxymoron? It's almost 3:00 a.m. and I just got home from the Grand Old Party show at the Casbah. I'm not thinking straight.

Really, anyone that skydives is stupid.

I'm not talking about a person that does it once because they want to experience the sensation. Although, I'm sure you can experience it without the dangers and expense.

For the free fall aspect, go on Free Fall at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Then, on the ride home on the 405, stick your head out the window. Because, after the first few seconds you jump out of the plane and get that initial freefall, all you feel is wind hitting you at 100 mph.

I heard on the news, that someone lost their fake leg, as they were sky diving. I would've loved to have seen the faces of the people nearby, as that leg hit the ground.

And then, I did see some faces, as a different sky diver hit. I forget where it was, maybe Kansas. A guy was having problems with his parachute and he was coming in at 50 miles per hour. Which I'm guessing, is at least 35 miles too fast.

There was a military marching band practicing and he hit three of the guys, knocking one out.

The video of this is insane. You can probably Youtube it.

The weirdest part was the newscaster that said, "Two tubas were totaled." A tricky tongue twister. But also something odd to think about. I had imagined the tuba to be the kind of instrument that could withstand anything. Kinda like the cockroach of the brass wind instruments.

My stepbrother had brought up something a week earlier. He often gets tickets for not wearing his seat belt. And, he thinks he should be allowed to not wear it. He also thinks if you ride a motorcycle, it should be your option to wear a helmet. We've argued all the pros and cons, and taxpayers footing the bill for someone that doesn't have insurance that ends up in the hospital.

He brought up a point, on how that person could carry insurance that would cover them for any medical expense. He also said, "If we are protecting citizens from themselves, why is skydiving even legal?"

And, it was a great point. There are activities, like hiking. We hear about people being attacked by bears or bobcats. Or they fall off the cliff, get lost...so many ways they die during hikes. But at least you can understand why someone would enjoy hiking. Why would someone enjoy jumping out of the perfectly good airplane? And don't tell me "adreniline junky."

Skydiving...unless you are in the military and doing a training exercise, is really an unnecessary activity.

And, I know of at least two tubas that would agree with me.
