I was getting ready for bed last night and turned on CNN just in time to see that the idiot that shot those two burglars is not going to be charged. Wait...maybe I got that wrong. Maybe he was charged, but he got away with it, because of that "new law" that lets you defend your property with force, or whatever it is.
The problem...to refresh, or tell you the story if you aren't familiar...he called 911. Reported seeing two African-American kids breaking into a neighbors house. He tells the male 911 operator he's going to get his rifle and go shoot him. The operator tells him not to, that police are on the way. This guy says he can, he knows about the new law, and he's not going to let them get away with robbing his neighbor. This goes back and forth for a few minutes.
He lives the phone off the hook as he goes outside and says something like "Don't move," and immediately fires at them. They're killed instantly.
This guy should seriously be in trouble for this.
That being said, I'm glad the two losers are dead. I have no problem with people that break into your home being shot and killed. The problem is...this wasn't his home. So, why does that law even matter involving this case? Also, how about charging this guy with some law (I'm sure it's on the books somewhere), with "interfering with a law enforcement officer"...since the 911 operator was giving him a director order he didn't follow. Geez, looking back, I wish the officers would've shown up, seen him standing there with the rifle, and taken him out. He'd be trying to explain, "No, you don't understand, I don't live here, but..."
As the cops are yelling "Drop your weapon!" He would be saying "No, I won't drop my weopon. I live next door." Then the cops could unload their weapons on him. That would've been great.
Some of my friends would tell me that's harsh. I shouldn't want someone to be shot by police. Well, I disagree. I don't want idiots on the planet. I really don't. They cause problems. This is the type of neighbor who...yells at you if you have a few friends over for a small party. He'll key a friends car that is parked in front of his house, or flatten the tire. He's somebody that will keep the football your kid accidentally threw into his backyard. He's the person that hates everything you do as a neighbor...but if he gets drunk on 4th of July and shoots his rifle into the air to celebrate Independence Day, we're supposed to ignore it. Or laugh along with it.
What if that neighbor had some friends over helping him move? Does he get charged then for shooting the African-American movers that merely "looked" like they were stealing furniture and putting it into a big truck?
The logic would still be the same. It would be the neighbor "thinking" he's doing the right thing.
I don't know enough about the case yet.
I will say this, though. Those militant groups should avoid protesting. They just end up looking idiotic when they fly into a town and start protesting. After all, these two kids were criminals.
If they want to always defend someone that's the same race as them, that also looks bad. And, it hurts race relations. How about you defend the person that is wrong in each individual case?
Maybe they can try to help some of those Duke lacrosse players. After all, I believe an African-American woman accused them of rape. She lied. And, their lives were changed. Yet, Jessie Jackson said he'd pay for her college. I haven't heard him say what he'd do for any of the white players, that had an entire season ruined. And a few, who ended up not graduating from Duke.
And, she was never named. So, she gets to go thru life continuing to lie and file fake police reports. And ruin who knows, how many other peoples lives.
Maybe they can fly out there and protest, until she is named. Or, at the very least, brought to justice.
