Jenny Jenny Who Can I Turn To?

My attempted interview with Kirstie Alley, and her bailing on Jenny Craig.

Actress Kirstie Alley made the news yesterday, when she split from Jenny Craig. I caught the news, when they said a spokesman for Craig said they parted ways. I yelled at the TV, "Her way, is to the buffet, I bet."

Instead, she is deciding to launch her own weight loss business. At first I thought that was lame. She uses them to lose all this weight, and then she wants to make money using their techniques or whatever it is. Then I thought...every time they talk about her, they'll talk about Jenny Craig. And, they no longer have to pay her. This is probably the best thing that could've happened for them. And, if she gains the weight back, that's even better.

Maybe they should send a box of congratulations chocolate. Of course...a lot of people don't take kindly when you leave. I remember Joan Rivers leaving, as the guest host of The Tonight Show. And, Johnny Carson was so mad, he never spoke with her again. Even after her show failed. Even after her husband killed himself, over the stress of the failed show, Carson couldn't even man-up and send a sympathy card.

Now, I'm just wondering what this world is coming to. Next, I'm going to hear that Jared jumped ship, and is working for Quiznos. By the way, what do you think that dope pulls in a year? It's gotta be in the six figures, which is insane.

I remember once being asked if I wanted to interview Jared. I passed. But once, I went to interview Kirstie Alley at Dick's Last Resort in the Gaslamp Quarter. Don Henley was also supposed to be there, but he never showed. Kirstie seemed to be...uh, a little out of it, and wasn't doing a good job answering the questions. Her husband at the time, Parker Stevens, apologized to me. I saw KGBs morning show waiting to interview her. I thought, "Yeah, good luck with that, guys." Well, they had some good luck.

She had said at a recent Emmy award show, that she wanted to thank her husband for "giving her the big one for the last five years," or something to that affect.

I heard a few days later, KGB playing a soundbite of her thanking their morning show, for something similar.

I was working for a rival morning show at the time, and I realized -- that's why they are making the big bucks.
