Smoking a J in the Unemployment Line

An interesting email I received.

I got this email the other day. It's probably one of those things that you get, and then all your friends send it to you a few weeks later. Those email jokes or stories that never die.

It was all about how a person had to take a drug test at their work (side note: do popiseed muffins really make you fail a drug test?).

The guy got upset, saying that to collect unemployment, you don't have to take a drug test and how that's not fair. You could collect your unemployment, and then go buy drugs with it. He talked about a system that would have drug testing before you collected any cash.

It reminded me of a debate I had with my very liberal stepdad once. The topic of welfare come up. And, I said to him, "If a woman had eight kids, from six different men, and the welfare office said the only way she could collect any money, was if she was on birth control..." before I could even finish the scenario, he started screaming. He was ranting about me listening to crappy talk radio shows like Rush and Sean Hannity (neither of whom I listen to). He then talked about how valuable the welfare system was. When I saw the veins in his neck finally get back down to a normal size, I said "I'm not saying do away with the welfare system, I'm just saying...I think they should be able to tell a woman that continues to have kids, and can't afford them, that she doesn't get money, and her kids are going to be taken away from her."

He said, "It's not the governments right to tell you what to do with your body or your children."

I responded, "It should be, if you want money from them."

But, back to the unemployment thing...it seems like they have their system down pretty well. I remember a time as a teenager, hearing neighbors talking about how they milked the system. But, 10 years later, some people were complaining about unemployment needing to see proof of job searches they did.

The problem with drug testing, is it's more paper work, and more expense.
