Sleeping During Nine Inch Nails

I went to see Nine Inch Nails in Las Vegas. It was strange, because their new drummer had contacted me about doing a story on him. I called back saying I would. And then I didn't hear anything.

I had never seen NIN live, and was looking forward to the show.

Trent Reznor and crew played for two hours, and it was great. But when he sat at the piano and did a slow song with no vocals, I feel asleep. Literally.

Later in the concert, when he played a long song with xylaphone, I again dozed off.

Damn, I'm getting old.

Although, I have fallen asleep at a few concerts before.

When Blue Oyster Cult (of the "more cowbell" fame) played at Brick by Brick in the early 90s (it wasn't called Brick by Brick then)...they didn't go on until right before midnight. I had done an overnight shift on the radio the day before, and was dead tired. My friends were at a table, and I was standing near them. And, leaning against a poll, I fell asleep.

Nothing like waking up to the blaring guitar riff of Godzilla!

I took an old high school girlfriend to see Robert Plant when he played at the Embarcadaro a few years back with his band "Strange Sensation." It was actually an amazing show. The way he changed those old Zeppelin songs was really interesting.

But as I sat there, I dozed off. I got nudged in the side, with my date saying "Hey there, big fella. Ya need a pillow?"

I'm sure there will be future concerts I fall asleep at.

When I got back to the Monte Carlo, I'm taking the car to valet. And, the guy taking our car is someone I went to high school with. He played professional baseball for about 10 years.

We caught up a little bit. Although, it was distracting talking to him, with such insane winds. And, with all these drunk cowboys coming back from some big rodeo in town.

I'm getting ready to head out of Sin City, before it starts snowing.

I just talked to a friend on the phone, and we planned a concert for next week. It's an acoustic show.

Maybe I will bring a pillow.
