A few days ago, a friend of mine got caught in some traffic, when for four hours, officers tried to persuade a woman not to jump off the Coronado Bridge.
I remember a few years ago, I was late for my fantasy football draft, because I was in Coronado and someone was threatening to jump. As I picked Shaun Alexander via the cell phone, and missing the draft (something fantasy football geeks look forward to more than anything), I actually found myself wishing this idiot would've just jumped an hour earlier.
My friend and I talked about the incident that held him up in traffic, and he asked if I knew what the legalities were of someone standing on a building or bridge, and a person taunting them to jump. He said, "I can picture some loser telling a person to jump, or that their life isn't worth it. Or even someone thinking it's funny to joke around about the situation, telling them they might be able to fly, or who knows what."
I thought it was an interesting point, because...well, I saw the amount of losers that felt the need to yell out things as Fred Goldman was speaking about OJ the other day.
I thought about how they charged the woman that created a fictional boyfriend for a girl, who than killed herself after the "guy" said the world would be better off without her.
Any legal people out there know the answer to that? If a person at a bridge is telling someone they should jump, and they do, what can happen legally to that person?
