I just finished a Reader's Digest. It had a story about a woman who was hiking with her 3-year-old. That child feel 50 feet down an embankment. And, a guy fell 1,000 feet trying to rescue her.
Then I see in the paper, in some place called "Willits", a man was arrested for stealing an idling car with a 3-month-old in the back seat.
Ironically, the car was called a Ford "Escape".
The owner of a business ran inside, with her car engine idling. The guy that stole the vehicle is now charged with kidnapping, carjacking, auto theft, violation of probation and possession of drug paraphernalia.
And, you know what bothers me most about this story? Authorities haven't determine whether the mother will be charged for leaving her son in a running car.
Well, why not?
Authorities can't start deciding who gets charged based on...who knows what.
In New York, all the authorities seem to be so furious as Plaxico Burress for carrying a fire arm when he's not registered. And throwing the book at him. That's good.
But why not a successful business owner? What she did was a lot worse. She put a baby at risk. Plaxico just put his, well...possibility of making babies at risk, by shooting himself in the thigh.
I understand you can't charge the idiot that thinks hiking with a 3-year-old, with thouand foot cliffs is a good idea (she says in the story that many times she told her child to "be careful").
One time when I was being interviewed on KOGO, I got into a huge argument with the host, Chip Franklin. He was mad at police for arresting a woman that left a kid in a running car, while the person ran into a store to grab a coffee. For some reason, he thought the police were just being jerks. I don't. I think the woman was.
Listen up, people. If you have kids, I hate to break this to ya, but they can be a burden.
You can't just run in for a cup of coffee, unless you take them out of the car seat.
You can't go to a movie (even though many of you idiots still do).
You can't get little ear plugs, and bring them to the Stones concert.
I can guarantee you, the police will not charge this woman. And their logic (if they're actually called on it), will be "Hasn't this lady been through enough?"
