Wow...I don't think that title worked. I was going for a play on the song "Money (That's What I Want)". Oh well.
I read in the paper last week, that in Rhode Island, the kin of the fire victims in that nightclub where Great White played, will get a big settlement.
The state of Rhode Island and the town of West Warwich, have each agreed to pay $10 million to relatives of victims of the 100 people killed.
The state and town didn't admit wrongdoing, which leads me to wonder, why they are paying out what now totals nearly $175 million bucks.
It seems to me, that only the club and the band, should be liable.
When Great White was doing their pyro-technics, the foam that's used as soundproofing on the walls and ceilings, caught fire.
I did a Blurt about this at the time, because Great White tried to do the same thing here, when they played 4th & B earlier. The soundman there, Ed Pate, told me they were told they couldn't do it without the proper fire permits. They threatened to not perform, which the club said "Okay, don't perform." They then said, "This is the only city we won't be doing this in."
And, it's good they didn't let them.
I was told when Ted Nugent played there, and shot a flaming arrow at a huge picture of Saddam, he had all his proper permits, and the fire marshal came by to check it out before hand. I dunno, maybe that's why the city/state is liable. I need a lawyer to explain that to me.
I heard a story a month back that I wanted to blog about. Some older guy was driving, and for some reason, the thousands of dollars he was carrying started flying out the window. When he pulled over to retrieve it, guess what happened? Yep. Other drivers were doing the same. Oh...not to help him, but to grab cash and take off.
Which really blows me away. Would those same people go into a bank to do a transcation, and if the teller turned her back, reach over and grab some bills? To me, it's the same thing. You're taking something that doesn't belong to you.
Maybe if the money was falling from the sky, and you think it came out of an airplane or something, sure...take a few stacks.
But, when you see an old guy panicking and trying to collect his loot...why not help him out? Maybe keep other drivers from hitting him.
I'm curious as to what other people would do in that situation.
I'm also curious as to why someone would drive around with thousands of dollars.
