Michael Phelps Falls

I heard a sports show talking about all this backlash on Michael Phelps. It's really insane. The dude just won 8 gold medals in the Olympics, and people are talking all this smack.

First, there's that Amanda Beard. Rumors are that they dated. She said something about how she wouldn't date him, and that she finds him ugly. She even said "ewww!" when shown a picture of him in a Speedo. Well...I can't blame her there. Most people in Speedos make me say "ewww!"

In another interview, Beard tries to say that she was just joking, and that she's a really good friend of Phelps. Although, some of the things in that interview didn't make a lot of sense. She had previously said she didn't know him.

Of course, none of these reports asked if maybe she's a little jealous that he's a swimmer that's winning a lot more medals. No reporter asked her why she posed in Playboy.

Yet, with Michael Phelps, reporters keep trying to knock him.

The latest is the fact that he's being paid big bucks to appear on the box of Frosted Flakes. Some group fighting obesity in America, has gone on countless shows saying how doing this will make kids in America fat. They also talk about how he should've been on the cover of Wheaties, like so many other great athletes.

Why?

I mean, if Magic Mountain offered Kobe Bryant $25 million to say "I'm going to Six Flags Magic Mountain," instead of the usual "I'm going to Disneyland,"...I bet he'd take it. Especially since, I read years ago, Disneyland pays them around $45,000 to say that.

If we are going to knock athletes for the commercials they choose, I remember Kobe doing Sprite and Coke commercials. I'm assuming those products have sugar and aren't any better for you than Frosted Flakes. Yet nobody commented on that.

Should athletes only do ads for products that are healthy? There would never be another beer commercial made.

At this point, we should just be proud of Phelps. He does interviews. He sounds proud, grateful, humble...he's an amazing athlete.

He's not winning races and pumping his chest, like that Jamacian runner did.

He's not cheating, like so many of the athletes.

Give the guy a break.

If in a year, he comes back and pulls a Lance Armstrong...and leaves his wife and three kids, and dates one Hollywood star after another, and you want to knock that...then go for it.
