Caylee Case...and Roman Polanski in Paris

I really tried to avoid the Caylee case. I usually get into these things. But I've found that the legal system is so messed up, it frustrating me.

For example, a boy disappeared in Balboa Park. The stepfather or boyfriend of the boys mother (I forget which), said he went to buy a Coke and left the boy at a park bench for 15 or 20 minutes.

They couldn't find the body. They couldn't charge the guy. Now, why they didn't charge him with...oh, I dunno...neglecting a child, child endangerment, or something. He ended up moving to the mid-west, and last I heard, got arrested on some other charge (I think it was murder, but I'm not positive).

So when I heard the different things about the Caylee case, I just ignored most, so I wouldn't get emotionally involved. I heard she didn't report the child missing for a month. I heard they recorded conversations with her from prison, and she didn't seem upset that her child was gone.

She mentioned people involved around her place, that didn't check out.

But when things got really weird, was when some bounty hunter that has a TV show (that isn't named "Dog"), paid her bail. He did interviews saying he didn't think she killed her child.

It was his logic that made me want to post anything about the case. He said he couldn't believe a woman would kill her own 3-year-old.

Insane. Why do people have such a hard time believing this stuff? It happens every day. Parents kill their kids. Kids kill their parents. Cousins shoot cousins.

A comedian I saw in New York said...he was surprised a woman was scared as he ran for the subway. She started running, and it looked like he was chasing her. He said, "Look at my face. I look like a 15-year-old boy, even though I'm an adult now. But, I gotta remember...adults rape people."

It's one thing if her own family can't conceive of the fact that she may have killed her daughter, or gave her away, or whatever. But everyone else in society should stop being so ignorant in cases like this. It's the reason jurors are filled with people that let O.J. off the hook.

And tonight, I saw the Roman Polanski documentary. It was interesting. It still doesn't hold a candle to the better documentary, Man on Wire (mentioned in a previous blog).

I always thought Polanski should be sent back here to serve jail time. And, the movie brings up some interesting things the judge in the case did. Both sets of attorneys agreed the judge did some bogus things against Polanski. But you know what? That doesn't change the facts: he gave alcohol and drugs to a 13-year-old girl. He then sodomized her against her will.

Now, I feel horrible that Polanski lost his parents in concentration camps, and then his beautiful pregnant wife to Charles Mansons crew. And, I love many of his great films (Rosemary's Baby, Chinatown, etc). But...it doesn't explain why everyone in Hollywood still flocks to work with this guy.

And why they think these charges should be dropped.

Do these same actors/producers/directors watch when Dateline does that "To Catch a Predator," and say "Oh come on, let the guy go. He made a mistake, meeting a girl on the computer he thought was 12." No, they probably want to see that guy fry.
