The Olympics

I don't really follow the Olympics closely. I love sports, just not big into the Olympics.

I always hear things that I find interesting or odd. That they were getting rid of baseball, and womens softball. Yet...I see they still have handball, which is such a bizarre sport. If you haven't seen it, it's not like racquetball. It's like lacrosse or water polo, without the swimming pool.

I read that Michael Phelps got his 8 medals, breaking the 7 that Mark Spitz got in the early 70s. I laughed when they showed Phelps with a mustache for a few days. It wasn't nearly as big as the one Spitz had going, which he joked "deflected water from his nose."

I saw 25 seconds of synchronized swimming. It can be interesting to watch. For 25 seconds. But to think that someone actually wins gold medals for dancing around in water...

The thing that got me fired up, was the stories about the Chinese gymnasts, and how there's speculation that a few of them aren't 16-years-old, which you have to be to compete. I hope they can find out and if it's true, disqualify them.

The Olympics, in this day and age, really should be able to crack down on crap like this. I still remember watching some boxing matches...Roy Jones Jr. I believe...losing a fight to a Korean that he clearly won. How hard is it to say that if something is controversial, they're going to have judges review the tape and change the decision?

Everyone is talking about the American basketball team winning the gold. Of course they'll win it. They have Kobe, LeBron James, Jason Kidd, and all those all-stars. But...last time they were they clear favorites and they didn't do it.

It's funny how even NBA stars, don't realize that basketball is a game that sometimes involves passing the ball and playing as a team.
