I used to make fun of all my friends that recorded their reality shows. Survivor, the few minutes I saw, was corny as hell; seeing who could stand the longest on a poll, and then putting out the flame. The dancing show I never watched. But, getting contestants that are on the D list...who cares? Sure, a bit of a morbid curiosity when the one-legged Heather Mills was on. I'm wondering when we'll see Gary Coleman.
I always knew the "reality" dating shows were bogus. A guy in TV Guide wrote about being on it, and how contrived and staged it was.
When I met Foreigner (and future Zeppelin) drummer Jason Bonham, I asked how he liked hanging out with Ted Nugent on their reality show. He told me the Nuge bailed when the cameras weren't on. He didn't even stay at the house.
So much for reality, folks. You don't know what to believe. But networks will keep shovelin' 'em out. Hey, you don't have to pay actors or writers!
I will admit, I do sometimes watch. I prefer the ones with the celebrities. Watching Gene Simmons of Kiss, when he isn't spitting up blood, is kind of interesting. Seeing Hulk Hogan, possibly the world's worst dad, with his spoiled brat son, mad it all the more interesting when I heard about the kid crashing his yellow Lamborgini and almost killing his passenger. I was able to sound like one of those friends I hate, that starts a conversation like:
"I knew this would happen. On Hogan Knows Best, his son crashed a number of cars when he was training to become a race car driver."
I'd write more...but one of the contestants on Dancing with the Stars is on Letterman (that goes under the category of interview show, not reality show).
