I always get cool jobs. When I was in radio for 5 years, it was free concerts, CDs, and...talking on the radio and being paid.
When I was between jobs, and freelance writing, my friend was doing music for Playstation games. He got me a job playing video games.
Now, writing...another job my friends tell me they wish they had. I try to tell them the pros to their jobs, and the cons to mine. The job security they have. The benefits they have that I don't. And, every time one of my music stories gets turned down, I bitch to them.
I've talked and gotten quotes from Colin Hay, Deep Purple, Elijah Wood, John Legend, Panic Channel, Michelle Shocked, Louis XIV...I watched as John Popper of Blues Traveler autographed a womans body and then...tried to pick up on another one. That didn't make the cut (even when he fled the cops with multiple weapons in the car).
I was talking with the singer of the Kaiser Chiefs about his crowd surfing. I said he could get his wallet stolen doing that. He grabbed my crotch, and said "That's what I hate happens when I do that."
I got some inside scoop from Sly & Robbie about why they canceled their show here with Sinead O'Connor. Yet, none of this made the paper. It was work I did, that never saw the light of day.
My friends come back with "Hey, you get to go to parties and write about it. Stop bitching!"
