I've noticed when I meet friends at sports bars and restaurants for the Sunday games, it's sometimes fun. Other times, disasterous.
My buddy had to wear his Cowboys jersey. Which means we had to deal with hecklers at the other table. And, the drunker they got, the cruder, and more likely it was that a fight would start. The funniest was when the dude said, after the Cowboys gave up a TD..."Dallas sucks!" I turned around to look at him, and he's wearing a Redskins shirt. I wanted to say "Have you seen their record lately? The Cowboys are undefeated." But, it wasn't my battle to fight.
And, of course, we had the usual Raider fans acting like the thugs they are. Instead of just applauding when their team does something, they have to get up and flaunt it, and get into Charger fans faces.
There was a cute sight. A man with a Cowboys jersey, walking around with a 6-month-old in a Chargers jersey.
A crowd of people, with no place to stand at the Oggie's near the airport, merely crowded the door. It made me wonder why, at the many music venues I've been to over the years, fire marshals sometimes shut things down or end a concert. This surely was a fire hazard.
Another observation is this. If you're a Charger fan at a sports bar, you're not a real fan. Trust me, I know real fans. You'd want to watch the game at home, where you can clearly hear the announcers, and not be distracted. The Charger fans I see at sports bars, are fans the way women are. They want something to cheer for and get excited about, and making an event out of it. But they really don't know the nuances of the game, or really care all that much. They could marry a man and move to Wisconsin, and they'd be just as "hardcore" about the Green Bay Packers within a week.
Okay...well, maybe I'm just ranting because I want less people to show up at these places, so I can get a table. And when I do, I can watch the game with friends, instead of dealing with drunken idiots.
