I can't believe I woke up at 6 a.m. Well, I went to bed at a reasonable time last night, because I didn't watch the Daily Show, or Letterman and Conan. I'm addicted to those guys. Oh, and Kimmel. He's great.
I hate Leno and Ferguson. They don't have a clue as to how to be funny.
Apparently, their writers are on strike (I suspect Leno and Fergusons have been for some time)...which means the networks are running repeats.
It's odd. I know they have about 13 writers. But, couldn't they just make the monolog shorter, and the interview segments longer?
And, these guys are all former stand up comedians. Can't they write their own monologs?
I heard the writers make $200,000 a year. Which is great coin. But, when you realize Letterman is pulling in $25 million a year, and they have things now like DVD sales, that weren't around when contract were originally signed, they have points.
And, nobody realizes how important the writers are. People think because Jerry Seinfeld was a great standup comedian, that's why his show was great. His show was great because he had writers, like the very talented Carol Leifer, who nobody even knows about. Jerry actually did little writing in the show with his own name.
Maybe they don't go on with the show, as solidarity to the writers. The networks could say "Hey, the show is going fine without you guys." It would be like Letterman crossing the picket line. That's my guess anyway.
Before I went to bed, I saw Leno pull up on his motorcycle and comment on how important it is for the writers to be paid more, and he made a few jokes.
Does that guy have to try and act nice 24 hours a day?
