My friend bought a movie called Hot Rod. He told me it was hysterical, and let me borrow the DVD. I got 30 minutes into it. And having laughed once or twice, I didn't feel it was worth any more of my time. It was like a Napoleon Dynamite on steroids. And even Napoleon wasn't as funny as everyone remembers. It just sounds funny listening to people quote lines from it (my friend Bonnie kills me every time she says "Do the chickens have large talons?")
I saw Juno. The movie that's getting all the Oscar buzz. New screen writer Diablo Cody got a lot of press, from being a stripper to writing a blog, to now writing screenplays. If this is any indication of her talents...I'm wondering what the big deal is.
The movie was cute. I enjoyed it. But it was highly overrated. It tried way too hard to be hip. And it could've been a lot better.
But hey...people raved about Million Dollar Baby, Crash, Lost in Translation, and Brokeback Mountain...all over the last few years. Every one of those movies had a few interesting things about them, but weren't very good movies.
I just hope my friends aren't offended that I'm not longer taking recommendations on movies.
