I woke up the other day, turned on CNN as I ate some Frosted Flakes.
I saw that Dan Folgeberg died. I was never a fan of his music, but it's always sad when someone dies in their 50s. Especially a singer, that didn't OD.
A weird thought occured to me. At his funeral, people walk in and hear muzak versions of his songs, and they think it's done for the funeral, not realizing it's probably always those tunes piped in at the funeral home.
Then I turn to the local news. And, two cop stories interest me. The rookie Coronado officer that shot Charger player Steve Foley. I think Foley is scum. He's had numerous brushes with the law. And I hope he doesn't get a cent from this incident. But, it does seem odd that this officer isn't even charged with firing a "warning shot" as he said he did (I can't imagine that's procedure, especially in a residential area).
Other people, I believe in Chula Vista, are complaining about cops unloading on a 90-year-old that came towards them, refusing to drop his gun.
The guy left a "suicide" note.
What bothers me about this case, is the old guys family. Instead of them thinking how horrible it is, that their family member did this, and possibly did pyschological damage to an officer or two, they complain in the media, about how the cops should've been able to take down an old man without the use of deadly force.
I'll tell you what. Next time the cops come across an armed suspect, how about we send you over to talk to them. Unarmed. Will see how well you come out of it.
I understand a person being sad they lost a family member. But how hard is it to look at the big picture, and realize, the cops did their jobs. The way they are trained. A job most of us don't want to do. A job that puts their lives on the line.
