Lies -- and the fat man in the red suit that tells them.

What I believe, you should say to kids...from drugs to Santa.

I remember as a teenager, dating a girl briefly, who said when she has kids, she'll never let them believe in Santa Clause. She said, "That's lying to your children, and I believe that's wrong." We had a 3-day fight about this.

I told her, there probably isn't an adult anywhere, that's seeing a psychiatrist, lamenting "I just can't believe my parents lied to me about St. Nick. I believed those presents in my stocking came from the North Pole. And it was all lies!"

Believing in Santa, is fun for kids. It lets them use their imagination. And when they find out there is no Santa, it lets them have fun with younger kids, keeping the "lie" going. And, they appreciate how their parents fooled them, with cookies by the fireplace that were half eaten, etc.

This girl also said she'd admit to her kids, that she tried all kinds of drugs. I told her that was idiotic. Again, another 3-day fight. I just don't think you have to be honest about everything with your kids. I don't think you always have to be a buddy to your kids. I think you have to raise them, and do and say what works best. If that means lying about what you did as a kid, so be it.

They don't need any excuses when they try pot, saying "Well, you did, and you turned out fine." Or, "You're being a hypocrit, because you smoked pot."

This girl also had a bunch of piercings, and a few tattoos.

I'm so curious as to how her kids have turned out.

Or, should I say....worried.
