A Hero

Where have all good men gone And where are all the gods? Where’s the street-wise Hercules To fight the rising odds?

Isn’t there a white knight upon a fiery steed? Late at night I toss and turn and dream of what I need

I need a hero I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night He’s gotta be strong And he’s gotta be fast And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight I need a hero I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the morning light He’s gotta be sure And it’s gotta be soon And he’s gotta be larger than life

Somewhere after midnight In my wildest fantasy Somewhere just beyond my reach There’s someone reaching back for me

Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat It’s gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet

Up Where the mountains meet the heavens above Out where the lightning splits the sea I would swear that there’s someone somewhere Watching me Through the wind and the chill and the rain And the storm and the flood I can feel his approach Like a fire in my blood

I need a hero I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night He’s gotta be strong And he’s gotta be fast And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight I need a hero I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the morning light He’s gotta be sure And it’s gotta be soon And he’s gotta be larger than life

ah the men in my life

each and every one of them fit this bill in one way or another

when this song came out in 1985 it became my anthem

it wasn't the usual "hey Hunky riding that pure white stallion come protect me"

it was the cry of a fiercely independent woman looking for the man whose attributes ran like wildfire thru her veins

she wasn't looking for a protector...she was looking for a partner who met her expectation

a hero

and notice nowhere in the song does it speak of age or good looks

being a hero has nothing to do with that

i've met a few men here at the READER that i think qualify

and even tho i'm not lookin' hard for one anymore

i prize them still in a platonic sort of way....hahahahahahahahahahaha

u know who u are

i sure like the shape of ur Stetson and the tilt u wear it at homeys
