The Orange Tree

it's early...soon the sun will be coming up...and i'll tottle over to Brenda's...she'll have the coffee made...weaker then i would like but the visit is the thing

we'll lazily sit on her front porch and watch the sun come up ...both of us wrapped up in our pajamas and robes..me in my UGGS...her in the wooley purple slippers with the pom poms i gave her for Christmas

there will be smiles and our conversation will drift...she says the only reason she visits with me is because i never do the usual oldster talking about any aches and pains...which makes me laugh because i haven't any

after the morning amenities have been made...the silence as the sun comes up...our conversation eventually turns to the Orange tree

we can see it from the front porch..bright and green laden with fruit so that the boughes hang nearly to the ground...it's in Mickie's mobile's yard

Mickie who's moved and left it to fend for itself..left the treasure of the fruit to fall and rot on the ground

Brenda and i find that very disconcerting....she has a very limited income and rarely does fresh fruit grace her table

what to do...what to do.."waste not want not" was a byword in my family just coming out of the depression

i want to pick it for her...she's afraid i'll get in trouble...i counter with "what would they do with an old lady who picked some Oranges"

i mean REALLY!!!

this nonsense has gone on for about 2 weeks now

this morning i insist we make a plan...i think letting Rdog run into the yard with me closely behind carrying a bucket would be a good idea

hahahahahahahahahahahaha

well the sun is peeping and i've got some harvesting to do
