First annual La Costa Film Festival looking for submissions

Famed North County Resort and Spa turns screening destination October 24 - 27

And you thought the La Costa Resort and Spa was all about playing tennis, getting mudpacks, and seeing stars.

Festival founders, and La Costa residents Michael and Ruby Callihan, decided the time was right to transform the ultimate relaxation destination into a world class film festival. At least for a few days. The festival will be held October 24 - 27. http://sandiegoreader.com/users/photos/2013/may/07/45149/

The Callihans named Nancy Collet (AFI Fest, The Toronto International Film Festival, Busan International Film Festival, and Heartland Truly Moving Pictures) as festival producer. Jon Fitzgerald (AFI, Santa Barbara, Abu Dhabi – Festival Director) will act as a consultant on the inaugural event.

The red carpet Opening Night Gala will feature a screening under the stars on the resort's scenic grounds. Additional screenings will take place at the nearby La Costa Cinepolis Theaters, and next door to the spa at the Carlsbad Dove Library's Ruby G. Schulman Theater.

They have the venues and the talent to pull it off, now all they need are the movies. That's where you come in. The festival has put out a call for documentaries and narrative features -- produced in the last year and of varying length -- to screen.

The festival is accepting film submissions via Without A Box. The deadline is June 15 with a drop dead deadline of July 15.

All net proceeds of the festival will benefit the local Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad. Click for more information.
