Digital Gym offers workshops on acting, post-production, and how to make a short film

In addition to being San Diego's latest destination for art and independent films, the Media Arts Center San Diego's Digital Gym also offers workshops on film production.

Whether you've just removed your first lens cap or have several video projects already to your credit, the expert instructors at the Digital Gym will help guide students through the technical process.

The three May workshops include Post Production 201, Acting 101, and Producing a Short Film. Classes are held at the Digital Gym, 2921 El Cajon Blvd. Click to sign up for May workshops.

1.) Post Production 201

Tuesdays: May 14th, 21st, & 28th

Instructor: Jason Dickason

This 3 part series will provide students with the confidence to fully package a short video. You will review, edit, and put together a short piece that you can use for your reel.

May 14: Post - Production 201

  • Intro to Final Cut Pro
  • Import Footage
  • Building an assembly edit

May 21: Post - Production 202

  • Editing your first rough cut
  • Short cuts, tips and techniques

May 28: Post - Production 203

  • Refining your edit
  • Audio mix
  • Exporting your final edit

2.) Acting 101: Getting Better, Getting Noticed

Wednesday, May 29th (6-9pm)

This is an intro class that can also benefit those who are more seasoned. This workshop is about refining your acting skills and offer tips in getting noticed.

3.) Producing a Short Film (Pre-production & Production)

Thursdays: May 16th, 23rd, and 30th (6-8pm)

This 3 part series will provide students with the tools needed to properly develop a plan of action for a successful production.

May 16: Short Film 101

  • Writing a treatment
  • Storyboarding
  • Other pre-production necessities

May 23: Short Film 102

  • Production Day (shooting your short)
  • What makes a good producer, director, and crew?

May 30: Short Film 103

  • Reviewing footage
  • Re-shoot (for those who need it)
  • Put together a rough assembly of your film
