Porn producers eager to flee LA after passage of Measure B

How green was the Valley

The San Fernando Valley without porn?! What is this great country of ours coming to?

The people have spoken. With 55% of voters in favor of Measure B, producers of adult movies are threatening to take their business elsewhere. The passage of Measure B would require Los Angeles’ male adult film actors to wear condoms when performing in the studio.

The measure also requires the County Department of Public Health to enforce these new rules by making unannounced routine visits to ensure that porn actors have gloved-up. It will be up to LA County's Health Department to police porn sets in search of erection infractions. Hopefully Day-Glo condoms will be used in order to make it easier on the "porn police."

CBS Los Angeles spoke to Michael Weinstein of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, the organization behind the measure. “You will apply for a permit," says Weinstein, "you fill the paperwork. And then there are spot inspections. The same if you are a food handler, or a dog groomer or a barber. Someone is going to come around every once and a while and see if you are protecting people’s health.”

Is it really up to the government to police porno sets in search of the lost condom? What business is it of Uncle Sam if porn stars want to screw themselves to death? What kind of punishment will they dole out? Will failure to comply result in a stiff penalty or a mere slap on the tryst?

Refusing to take the measure lightly, porn producers are threatening to pull up stakes and move to another part of California or flee the state altogether. It's awfully cold in New Hampshire, the only other state in the union where producing porn is legal.
