Does Your Film Have What It Takes to Play the SD Asian Film Festival?

The largest showcase of Asian cinema in the Western United States needs your submissions. The San Diego Asian Film Foundation today put out a call for entries for the 2012 San Diego Asian Film Festival.

You don't have to be Asian for your film to make the cut, but it would provide applicants with a bit of an edge. Entrees must be directed by or prominently featuring people of Asian or Pacific Islander descent, and by Pacific Islander they are not referring to residents of Coronado. If you don't fit this description, the subject matter of the piece must in some way relate to Asian or Pacific Islander culture.

The categories include narrative feature, narrative short, documentary feature, documentary short, and short animation. Winners in each of the categories will be selected by an independent jury and announced at the gala awards night on Saturday, November 3. Festival programmers will also recognize a first-time filmmaker to receive the George C. Lin Emerging Filmmaker Award, which is accompanied by a cash prize.

The festival, which runs from November 1-9 at the Mission Valley UltraStar Cinemas at Hazard Center, offers three deadlines: early (April 1), regular (May 11), and late (May 25). Visit the SDAFF website for rules, entry forms, applications, and festival information, or contact [email protected] or 619.400.5911.
