The San Diego Asian Film Foundation has joined forces with The AJA Youth + Photography Transformation Project, and Sun & Moon Vision Productions to launch Reel Voices Journey, a documentary program for refugee high students in Southeast San Diego.
Thanks to the generous funding provided in part by the Weingart Foundation, Reel Voices Journey is free and open to students attending Crawford High School, including students from the IRC (International Rescue Committee), Survivors of Torture International (SOT), and the San Diego Refugee Forum.
From February through May, the group meets every Thursday afternoon between 2:30 and 4:30. Crawford High School is known as “the refugee capital of America.”
This is an opportunity on the part of SDAFF to expand their Reel Voices program, normally made available to high school students across San Diego County. Unlike Reel Voices, there is no application process or competitive awards. Reel Voices Journey focuses instead on one classroom of at risk students in one high school.
The completed films will be in consideration for many festivals including the SDAFF. Watch this space for the times and venues of future screenings.
