Forgive my ignorance, but until an email announcing an open call for submissions arrived, I had no inkling there was an Oceanside International Film Festival.
Their website, with the message "We hope to bring the Oceanside International Film Festival back in the near future. Please check back later," wasn't much help. (Apparently the last festival was in 2009.) Nor did their Facebook page shed any additional light, other than the fact Oceanside has beautiful beaches and Top Gun was filmed there. The good news is, it appears as though the OIFF is back on track, eager to find films to program.
The deadline for entries is June 11, 2012, lest you suffer an additional $10.00 late fee. The drop-dead cutoff date for submissions is June 2, 2012. Submission fees range from $25.00 to $50.00, and students in particular are encouraged to take advantage of special discount rates.
Organized and underwritten by the Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation, OIFF is looking for short and feature-length narrative or documentary films, as well as animated and student productions, providing they don't run over 120 minutes.
The festival does not limit its selections to locally produced movies, but they do ask that "applicable anti-piracy laws and copyrights are respected." Mail your DVDs or Blu-Rays (no digital files, YouTube submissions, or celluloid, please) to OIFF, P.O. Box 3054, Oceanside, CA 92051, or call 760-433-3632. The festival runs August 16-19, but as of this writing no titles, venues, or ticket prices are available.
