Have you been considering a future in photo journalism or are you the least bit curious to learn how to animate a storyboard? Perhaps it's always been a dream to build your own optical devices like a Zoetrope or Thaumatrope. (If you're nice, maybe they'll even teach you how to make a Phenakistoscope.)
The Media Arts Center San Diego has all bases covered with their September lineup of workshops.
Freelance photographer Danny Solomon's class on Journalism Photography will introduce students to the basics of photo narrative, including history, aesthetic flow, and how to record audio. The workshops will take place on September 11, 18, and 25 from 6 - 8 p.m.
Rizzhel Javier encourages you to return to the thrilling days of motion picture pioneers with his workshop, "Make Your Own Optical Toys." Week 1 focuses on creating a Zoetrope, Week 2 a Tree of Life, and the class ends on an up note when students are taught to create their very own Thaumatropes.
Alberto Lopez is a Videographer and Editor who specializes in commercials and short form documentaries. His "Animate Your Storyboard" workshops -- which take place on September 13, 20, and 27 from 6 - 8 p.m. -- show participants how to draw their own storyboards, including blocking, layering and more!
Admission for all 3 workshops is $30 per individual session with a 25% discount for MACSD members.
