What the @$%& is a Cecchi Gori and Why is it Suing Scorsese?

Cecchi and Gori: I’m disgusted with the two of ya's!

Excuse me, but I seem to be a bit confused. Is this the rich Italian guy who tailors Marty’s suits or some cannoli-peddler out to smear His great name? What the f@$& is a Choochi Gorey and where does it get its b@&%s big enough to sue God’s Gift to Cinema?

Whaddya’ know? Cecchi Gori, a distribution company headed up by a stugatz named Vittori Cecchi Gori, chose to put a litigious hit on Marty claiming it had invested $750,000 to develop a property based on Japanese author Shusaku Endo’s Silence that He agreed to direct back in 1990.

OOOOOOOOHH! Isn’t there some statues of limitation, or words to that effect, to protect Little Italy’s #1 Son?

Read it and weep.

Cecchi Gori invested $750,000 to develop the property that Scorsese would eventually get around to directing after Kundun (1997). According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Show Business Bible, “In 2004 and 2011, Scorsese and his company allegedly signed deals to postpone Silence so he could direct The Departed, Shutter Island, and Hugo. As part of those deals, Scorsese is said to have agreed to pay ‘substantial compensation and other valuable benefits, for the right to direct these three other films prior to Silence,’ according to the complaint. Those fees are said to be $1 million to $1.5 million per film plus up to 20 percent of Scorsese's backend compensation.”

Backend?! You give ‘em a backhand, Marty! I want you to hire a good lawyer -- preferably one who shares my Hebraic persuasion -- to bite ‘em, kick ‘em, scratch ‘em, do anything they gotta’ do to eat Cecchi's dog for breakfast and get this mamaluke out of His gossamer eyebrow hair once and for all.

Marty's minions shot back with the following:

"It is shocking to us that the lawyers for Cecchi Gori Pictures would file a suit pursuing such absurd claims considering the amicable working relationship existing between Martin Scorsese and the principals of Cecchi Gori Pictures. The claims asserted are completely contradicted by, inconsistent with, and contrary to the express terms of an agreement entered into by the parties last year.

The lawsuit filing on the eve of Mr. Scorsese starting another picture has all the earmarks of a media stunt.

Mr. Scorsese is confident that he will prevail in court should Cecchi Gori Pictures actually pursue this meritless action."

Of course He will prevail. I mean Helen Keller can see that, right? As much as I think Silence -- which tells the story of two missionaries sent to Japan in 1683 to investigate reports of Christians being tortured by the emperor -- would have been a more delightful popcorn picture than that slice of Oscar-bait, The Departed, His will be done. Don't eff with the infinite, Cheech!
