Look, David Elliott has already reviewed Whit Stillman's latest effort, and I'm not in the business of gainsaying the critic. BUT, I suspect that there are some people out there who will see this film despite Mr. Elliott's review, because they, like me, are Stillman fans, and they've waited a long time for this. For those people, I would like to make a proposal: try imagining everything Greta Gerwig says as a completely sincere expression of the author's attempt to resurrect traditional modes of courtship, an attempt hidden in plain sight by the seeming insanity of the character. Fun?
