Asian or German? Which Festival Are You Doing Tonight?

Either way, you can't go wrong.

The two-day inaugural San Diego German Film Festival commences tonight with Yasemin Samdereli's debut feature, Almanya - Willkommen in Deutschland. Tickets for the opening night gala, held at the Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park, are $25.00. A reception, featuring Mediterranean food, Apfelstrudel, German wine and champagne, will follow in the theater’s foyer. I suggest you contact German Currents San Diego to check on ticket availability.

If tonight is sold out, there are still several fine films to see tomorrow:

11:30 a.m.: Two family films, Max Lang and Jakob Schuh's Oscar-nominated animated short, The Gruffalo, followed by Detlef Buck's feature, Haende weg von Mississippi.

3:00 p.m.: Felix and Percy Adlon's Mahler Mahler on The Couch.

6:00 p.m.: Tom Tykwer's 3.

The San Diego Asian Film Festival rolls on with all-day screenings at UltraStar Mission Valley. The past two days have been hopping; they packed the big house for last night's 8:40 p.m. showing of Bang Bang. You might want to consider purchasing your seats on line or arriving early, picking up tickets at the box office, and dining at one of Hazard Center's many eateries.

Here is today's schedule:

10:00 a.m.: Ni Hao Kai Lan (Free)

12:00 p.m.: Ninja Kids!!!
