Scorsese to Direct Big-Screen Biopic of Liz and Dick?

It didn‘t take long for Elizabeth Taylor‘s body to cool. Hollywood Deadline reports that Paramount Pictures has optioned the rights to Sam Kashner and Nancy Schoenberger's showbiz bio Furious Love for Marty to direct. Don’t get your hopes up. I’m still waiting for Gershwin, The Irishman, and Sinatra.

Both Oscar®-winning actress Natalie Portman and Oscar®-winning screenwriter David Seidler (The King’s Speech) have expressed interest in the project, which is probably what caught Paramount’s eye in the first place. Softball-scribe Seidler would be a perfect fit, but Portman has far too much talent and not enough feminine pulchritude to play Liz. As of yet, there’s been no hint as to who will star as Burton. They are probably still dragging the bars.

Marty is currently in post-production on his 3-D adaptation of the children’s book Hugo Cabret, slated for release later this year. According to IMBD, Marty has at least two projects ahead of him -- the highly personal Silence, in which a pair of Jesuit priests (Daniel Day-Lewis and Benicio Del Toro) spread the gospel of Christianity throughout 17th-century Japan and the Sinatra biopic -- before he gets around to honoring Liz and Dick.

The raging romance between Taylor and Burton is best left for some stargazing television hack to direct, not Marty.
