Savory, a perfect name

I just returned from a loverly lunch at the Savory Deli & Market, recommended by my friend, DR. She knows the owners and had recently enjoyed a meal there. It is at 4661 Park Blvd. near Adams, on the east side of the street. They have a supportive neighborhood clientele and walk-by business. This is a small space but there are several tables inside & a couple of tables outside. They opened about 6 months ago & they do catering. They are Michael & Julius. They specialize in regional foods of Spain, France & Italy, mostly Spain. They make Saturday Paella, which looked wonderful. A couple dining near us were raving about it. As for our threesome, we had diverse choices. DR had a crepe, filled with pancetta, spinach, mushrooms, gorgonzola & mozzerella. The crepe was perfect, the ingredients perfectly melded into a delicious flavor experience. BV had a lentil (Pardina lentils which hold their shape) stew with ham & spinach which was delectable. She also ordered Socca (French flat bread made of garbanzo flour) with goat cheese & tampenade. We shared this and all thought it heavenly. I had Spanish Revuelto which is eggs scrambled with Spanish chorizo (a distinctly pepperoni-like flavor), asparagas, mushrooms, potatoes and onions. Another wonderful dish. I ate every bit of it.

Then we had to try the dessert crepes. We shared: crepe a l'orange, which was filled with fresh orange, mascarpone, homemade orange syrup and crepe a nutella-banana, filled with hazelnut chocolate & sliced banana (yummy). I preferred the orange one. For some reason, I find crepes with orange to be particularly delightful.

There are shelves filled with some interesting products, such as a fig cake, numerous types of olives, capers, tomato sauces, bread, pasta, chocolates & more. The deli display of meats & cheese was remarkable for things I never heard of!!!!!

It was a simply great afternoon where we ate some pretty fantastic food and had a typical gab session! Go try it out. They are open Tues.-Fri., 10 AM to 9 PM, Sat., 8:30 AM to 9 PM, and Sun., 8:30 AM to 7 PM. I definitely recommend this cozy little spot with the wonderful smells and great food. Thank you to Michael & Julius for their savoir faire.

One additional reminder: PLEASE VOTE (go to the polls or mail in) on June 8.
