I received the Agenda for the next CCDC meeting. Included is an item for the El Dorado Bar located at Broadway & 11th. CCDC staff is recommending approval for live entertainment 7 nights/week. That is bad enough but, the attachments include: "the proposed use is appropriate at the proposed location" and then: "The establishment is located in a mixed use area that includes compatible commercial uses such as restaurants, bars and live entertainment venues. Although residential uses exist in the area where El Dorado is located (this is the good part) the Downtown Community Plan seeks to encourage a high density, mixed use, 24 hour community and live entertainment venues contribute to this goal."
Wow, I cannot believe that residents really want a high density community with live entertainment SEVEN nights a week. I would encourage all who live in the area to either attend the CCDC meeting on January 20 or send e-mails to: Lorena Cordova; [email protected].
I started writing this before the kick-off. I am depressed because I was working on a grocery list for the Chargers Super Bowl party. Even early on in the game the Chargers were not fired up. Either they thought it would be an easy win or they had visions of Super Bowl dancing in their heads. There were plenty of chances to put this game in the win column, but they were stumbling around and Mr. Rivers missed wide open receivers on several plays. Too much thinking, not enough performing!
Tonight was the start of Restaurant Week. I will be at Hexagone with a friend tomorrow night. I am looking forward to a nice night out. I also want to commend Cohn restaurants for their choice in making their menus as appetizing as usual and for the $30 price. There are 60 restaurants charging a $40 price which is doable in 'normal' times. A $40 meal is extravagant and maybe more than many consumers can pay. $30 is much more palatable. There is a small group who, once upon a time, went out during restaurant week to 3, 4, 5, dinners. Now it is difficult to get to more than 1.
This apartment complex has been under construction (paint, flooring, retrofitting the 2 catwalks) for more than a year with the end in sight, if you have perfect vision and can see into the future. Now, the construction will be halted because of rain. The residents living near the catwalk areas have listened to jackhammers, nail guns, hammering. And we had the pleasure of huge amounts of dust, & then there was the smell of paint, glue, etc. It has truly been a year to seriously consider other options (which are few and far between). A big issue here is the fact that some idiotic residents love to break the gate. One reason I chose this place was because it was a gated (locked) community. But, that has not been true for most of my time here. Fixing the gates is part of the construction project, but saved for last. Hoping it gets done soon. Safety of the residents seems not too much to ask of a big ole management company.
