I was doing some research on an author and came across several articles on how to write. There was advice for those who want to write novels, pamphlets, short stories, news articles, news stories, and blogs. I thought I'd share some snippets from some of my favorites:
Remember to never split an infinitive
Do not put statements in the negative form
Verbs has to agree with their subjects
Proofread carefully to see if you words out
A writer must not shift your point of view
And don't start a sentence with a conjunction
Place pronouns as close as possible, especially in long sentences, as of 10 words or more, to their antecedents
Writing carefully, dangling participles must be avoided
If any word is improper at the end of a sentence, a linking verb is
Take the bull by the hand and avoid mixing metaphors
Always pick on the correct idiom
Avoid cliches like the plague
THE CHARGERS WON
Will politicians, even those in office, ever learn the art of communication? They give speeches that are political mumble jumble, rarely saying anything substantive. Somehow, they have managed to irk their constituency by failure to respond to emails. I am not being specific as I have found this to be true of many elected officials. Those on the National level do much better. The best one is Congresswoman, Susan Davis. Her staff reads, responds and even takes action, if possible. Senators Boxer & Feinstein are slower to respond, but they manage to do so eventually.
The worst group are the locals, the ones that purport to run our City. Even after meeting with James Lawson & Tony Manolatos,(Mr. Faulconer's minions), communication is only slightly better. I do get occasional responses. I am often surprised, for instance, that Mr. Faulconer's office does not know when the winter shelter for the homeless will be open.
Don't you think it would be fun to have a meeting attended by our Mayor, City Council, CCDC, CCAC, Port District, Airport authority? It could be set up like a seminar, with each entity manning a booth to provide information to the public. I am sure there are plenty of people with plenty of questions.
Is the City concerned at all about the closing of several long time restaurants? Dakota, Napa Valley Grille, Dussini's, Caesars, Cafe Cerise, Nicolosi's? Plus there have been several that opened and could not stay afloat, like EXY, Izzy's. There are lots & lots of empty storefront spaces. With unemployment over 10% (and this figure does not include those who are long term unemployed or those who don't qualify for unemployment), we are likely to see more closures. Right now apparently, our local economy is loud music and "clubbing" geared at a much younger clientele, with the "Boomers" being sent to the back of the line because we are fond of hearing and conversation.
Spending $160,000 on a study when there is this sinking feeling due to the economy, seems terribly irresponsible. It is reminiscent of the Banks who issue credit cards, raising the rates due to the economic crises that they started. So, we taxpayers gave them $$ to bail them out & now they want more of our money to keep them afloat, while they divvy up the bail out money to pay Bonuses. What a bunch of Greedy sons of guns (fill in your own expletive). What they should do is give their cardholders 3 months (or more), of no interest, no payment and DECREASE the interest rate. I can say with absolute certainty that I had NO hand in the failure of any financial institutions or mortgage (Countrywide) lenders.
