Losing Z Gallerie

Check what you write. Even if you are writing a product description, or instructions, anything that may be read by others, proofread it. And remember spell check does not notice improper word usage. I found this when I was looking for concert tickets:

RADIO OFFER RADIO OFFER Offer If you are responding to the RADIO OFFER offer, please enter the offer code or password and select a quantity of tickets. (rules and restrictions may apply. Refer to your offer for details.)

There are 38 words, 9 of which are the word "offer". Redundancy can make it more confusing for the reader.

San Diego is losing another one of my favorite places.
Z Gallerie is closing its doors, to be replaced by another restaurant. Located at 611 Fifth St., in the Gaslamp area, it was a place where you could find interesting artwork, unique furniture with all the trimmings, appealing glassware & dinnerware, an eclectic collection of varied wares. I wandered in quite often just to see what was new. Another attribute were the sales persons. They were friendly and acknowledged you but never hovered or rushed or got pushy. I plan to visit at least one more time before the doors are closed. This is a big loss especially for the downtown residents who wander through on a regular basis.

Chef Brian Malarkey, a celebrity after his appearance on "Top Chef", is pairing up with Stingaree owner James Brennan in this venture. Chef Malarkey who was top dog in the kitchen at Oceanaire, is the centerpiece of this venture which won't be open for 6+ months. The hope is that the economy will be on the upswing by then. The cuisine will be "basic American comfort food".

I wish Malarkey & Brennan success, but I will truly miss Z Gallerie.

A few more words on the continuing saga of the homeless people currently camping across the street from me. I was awakened at 5:30 by a barking dog. The thing that bothers me is the fact that this dog seems to be 'crying' rather than barking. It is an eerie sound. I wonder if opening the "winter shelter" will change the current population in my neighborhood. I have written many blogs, sent e-mails, tried to bring more attention to the situation. Unfortunately, San Diego's political beings do not seem to have any answers.

I did receive an e-mail from the Mayor's office explaining the parameters of the lawsuit that decided the homeless could sleep on public sidewalks, as long as they are not blocking traffic, from 9 PM to 5:30 AM. These hours are not being enforced and this area (around where I live) has an abundance of people about 12-15 hours every day.
